Taking an extreme example a 2 thick flooring material is likely to span an imperfect subfloor to a greater degree than a 1 2 thick flooring material. I would imagine a cement based one wouldn t hold up to the 100 s of nails from the hardwood very well. For instance which install type requires a higher level of flatness glue down floating or nail down.
